About Hunny App
The Hunny is a dating app with profiles made up of videos rather than pictures. The Hunny App enables users to view the uploaded video within 5 miles of distance. The app lets users show their energy, their voice, their moves, and their friends. With an aim to establish new ways of meeting people around them, the app lets users post their videos, like their matches, chat with one another, and enjoy and relish much more in just a click.
The app was initially built with a React Native-expo framework and thus it was very slow in its performance. The project being built on the Expo framework was not open for customized add-on functionalities like the in-app subscription to configure for the subscription purpose.
The codebase was not re-used properly and hence had more complexity and less readability when including a new developer in the project.
The app had many UI alignment issues and it caused poor usability on the Android.
The app was prone to threat and any third person could threaten the data as the backend had no security with Firestore DB. The DB was missing adding indexes to make the query efficient.
Used React Hooks to improve the readability of the component trees in React dev tools and encapsulate the side effects of a component in less code. Composable and reusable components are easily achieved because of the functional components with react hooks.
Clean code architecture was built with the entire codebase and implemented the components to reuse for the app.
The overall design element of the app was fixed and updated with a responsive design that had the best UX-wise usability.
Database-wise, added Firestore rules to DB to ensure high-level security from hackers and added indexes based on requirements so that it's easy to query the data.
Timeline
Hunny App’s success depended on the perfect functioning of three features - social media-like media posting videos, like their match, and in-app messaging. Planning, designing, and building these features with high performance and security assurance translated into 15 weeks of agile development.

App launch time was reduced to 19 seconds from 2 minutes when the user launched at first.

Effectively loading the videos on the screens in a very short time and smooth play of the videos.
Chats were working performant as initially the data for the entire application was being fetched in the splash screen, However, now with the change in the solutions the fetching of the data will be done only when it’s necessary.
Overall, the app was able to achieve a significant increase in the number of live users with a more significant user time.
